Poverty Alleviation

  Since women comprise the majority of the population below the poverty line and very often in situations of extreme poverty, given the harsh realities of intra-household and social discrimination micro finance programs for income generation have been specifically initiated to address the needs and problems of such women. Gowthami Foundation made an effort to contribute to first Millennium Development Goal ‘eradicate extreme poverty and hunger’. Gowthami Foundation was instrumental in initiating a novel program under income generation for the benefits of poor by distributing livestock (sheep).

          In  Prakasam District nearly 150 groups were formed in Kothapatnam, Ongole, Tangutur, Zarugumalli, Maddipadu mandals. In 2003 these groups were given the loan of 6 lakhs through Rastriya Mahila Kosh (RMK). The people those who had received loan they the Repaid loan amount completely. But in 2007,  9 lakhs from National Minority Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) and 1 lakh from Organization, in all 10 lakhs have been provided to the 50 Minority groups which were under the control of Gowthami Educational Society.
